The Wolf takes regional honors at the Southeast Journalism Conference

February 29, 2008

The Southeast Journalism Conference has named The Wolf magazine as one of the best university magazines in the region, at its 2006-2007 “Best of the South” competition. The Wolf, a student magazine of Loyola University New Orleans, took third place honors competing among a field of more than 30 colleges and universities from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The prestigious award recognizes excellence in writing, design, editing and photography. Loyola students Lilith Dorko and Jessica Kinnison served as editors of the Wolf during the 2006-2007 academic year. Loyola had a contingent of students who attended the conference, along with Michael Giusti, student media adviser.

The “Best of the South” competition gathers professional journalists from around the country to judge work from student publications in the past year and rank the top 10. Winners were announced at the Southeast Journalism Conference’s annual meeting in Oxford, Miss., February 21-23, which was co-hosted by the University of Mississippi.

The Southeast Journalism Conference is an organization of more than 45 member colleges and universities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. It was created to encourage greater interest in student journalism and to form closer ties among journalism schools in the Southeast United States.
