More than 45 alumni and faculty artists from the Department of Art and Design at Loyola University New Orleans are participating in “Mentors,” a multimedia arts exhibition that illustrates how Loyola’s esteemed faculty and alumni have influenced the art community through their exhibitions and educational practices.

The exhibit, part of the ongoing centennial celebration at Loyola, will open Thursday, Nov. 1 with a free reception from 5 – 8 p.m. in the Collins C. Diboll Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library.

In addition to the artwork, the show employs timelines, photographs and quotes from participants that reflect on the value of their Loyola education. According to Karoline Schleh, gallery director, it was important that “Mentors” be more than just another “alumni exhibit.”

“I wanted this centennial exhibit to really illustrate the fact that there is a continuous line between instructor and student,” Schleh said. “Our graduates are remarkably loyal, and they often return to campus to work with our current students. It’s extraordinary. Although we (the faculty) educated and cultured these amazing artists in their formative years, they now return and are able to teach us something new.”

The exhibit is on display until Jan. 10, 2013. For more information, contact Jess Brown in Loyola’s Office of Public Affairs at 504-861-5882 or jlbrown@loyno.edu.
