Loyola Law Professor Monica Hof Wallace Receives LYS “No Man is An Island” Award

Loyola press release - July 20, 2017

Today, Loyola University New Orleans law professor Monica Hof Wallace received the “No Man is An Island” Outstanding Delegate Alumni Award from Louisiana Youth Seminar (“LYS”), a week-long leadership seminar for high school students held each year at Louisiana State University.

“In 1971, the LYS Founders chose ‘No Man is An Island’ to be the theme of LYS. Throughout the week and beyond, we strive to teach and live the ideals of ‘No Man is An Island.’ We consider this one of the biggest honors we can bestow upon past LYS delegates,” said LYS Co-Founder Jo Pease.

Professor Wallace, a 1988 LYS delegate, is the Dean Marcel Garsaud, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. She is a frequent speaker and author in the areas of family law, successions, donations and trusts, and community property, all of which she teaches at the College of Law. She also lectures on Family Law for Barbri nationally.

“I am forever grateful for the opportunity LYS afforded me to grow as a person and as a leader. LYS has had a lasting impact on my life and continues to shape me, lift me, and connect me with others in new and exciting ways,” Professor Wallace said.

Professor Wallace has served on the Executive Committee for the Family and Juvenile Law Section of the American Association of Law Schools. And she is an active member of the Louisiana Law Institute, most recently being named as the Reporter for the tutorship procedure revisions in the Louisiana Civil Code.

The LYS “No Man is An Island” Outstanding Delegate Alumni Award goes to someone who makes exceptional contributions to something greater than oneself. The first “No Man is An Island” Outstanding Delegate Alumni Award was presented in 2012 to former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu.

Professor Wallace is an active Fellow for Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers and the Louisiana Bar Foundation. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, scholarship, and public service and was named a CityBusiness Leader in Law for 2017.
