Loyola University Department of Theatre Arts & Dance Present 'Violet' by Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley

Loyola press release - February 28, 2019

The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Theatre Arts & Dance and director C. Patrick Gendusa closes its 2018-2019 theatre season next month with VIOLET, a multi-award-winning musical with music by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Caroline, or Change and Shrek the Musical), and book & lyrics by Brian Crawley (The Little Princess).

1964. Somewhere between North Carolina and Oklahoma, we find Violet, a young woman who was facially disfigured as a child. She hopes her life savings will bring her a miracle halfway across the country. Reflecting on her childhood, and shaped by the reactions of the people she encounters, Violet embarks on a life-changing personal journey.

VIOLET, based on the short story The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, premiered Off-Broadway and won the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award as Best Musical, before transferring to Broadway where it was nominated for four Tony awards.

VIOLET will run in the Marquette Theatre at Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday March 29, 30 and Thursday through Saturday, April 4, 5, and 6 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 31. Free parking is available on campus in West Road garage.
